The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in
one box. First, theres the Wireless Access Point, which lets you
connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and
Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. Theres also
    a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-
Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach

whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet,
they can communicate with each other too, sharing resources and
files. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected
anywhere in the house. And your computers can share all kinds of
files -- music, digital pictures, and documents. Keep all your

  • Summary: Does what it's supposed to do, most of the time.
  • Comment: This item is fairly dependable in transmitting the wireless signal. Every so often it drops the signal. I have no idea why, since it's plugged in, turned on, and nothing seems to be interfering with the reception. But, it works 95% of the time.

  • Summary: Better Reception
  • Comment: I've always had problems with reception at certain parts of my house that were farther from my previous wireless. Now, I have good reception at all locations. Very pleased so far.

  • Summary: The WRT54GL loaded with Linux Tomato firmware makes this the best device on the market!
  • Comment: I bought the WTR54GL a year ago from Amazon.
At that time I loaded the Linux Tomato firmware version 1.21, this allow me to have better security options, see graphics and data for my Internet connection speed and usage and many other capabilities only available on devices priced 10 times and up.
I still use it today, I actually got a second one for my cousin. All the people that I have recommended this device too, and bought it, are happy with it.

Of course, it would be great if Linksys will come up with a similar device, still Linux compatible, for Wireless "N". In the meantime that happens, I will keep using this one.
I updated the firmware yesterday to Linux Tomato 1.28, the update was smooth with no issues. The most inmediate difference is that the web interface on 1.28 has been improved.
I will keep this review updated regarding reliability and features of Tomato 1.28 (if you want to try it, go to [...] ).

  • Summary: It's been great for 9 months and no more!
  • Comment: This is the best router I've ever had, until its sudden death within the warranty. I've had various routers for the past 10 years, none of them works flawlessly especially for the wireless. This Cisco-Linksys didn't need restart very often like others, usually once every a couple of months. The signal was strong and speed was notably faster than my Belkin. But it just suddenly died, although all the lights are on. It wouldn't connect to internet. I know it because when I put the old Belkin back on, it works. I thought I've found the stable router I can rely on for the rest of my life, until just now... What a shame, it's even within the warranty!
